A-PLUS

A-PLUS network Some urban districts are committed to creating truly outstanding schools that achieve results similar to or greater than the results achieved by NCUST Award-Winning Schools.

Four school districts – Houston Independent School District, Texas; Normandy Public Schools, Missouri; Phoenix Elementary School District, Arizona; and Seminole County Public Schools, Florida – have entered into partnerships with NCUST with the goal of accelerating the improvement of selected schools. NCUST is honored to work with teams of principals and district leaders from these districts on a regular basis.

A-PLUS Team Visits Horace Mann Elementary

September 15th, 2011 – Our Phoenix A-PLUS team headed to California for a visit to Glendale Unified School District’s Horace Mann Elementary School, a 2010 recipient of NCUST’s Excellence in Urban Education Award.  Our Phoenix team, including school and district leaders, spent the day visiting classrooms and talking with Principal Rosa Alonso, her leadership team, and the district superintendent, Dr. Richard Sheehan, about how Mann’s laser-like focus on grade-level standards and authentic student engagement has led the school out of Program Improvement and into the top 30 percent of all elementary schools in the state and the top 10 percent of California schools that share similar characteristics.

Seminole County A-PLUS Principals Visit Award-Winning Highland Elementary

May 10th, 2011 – A team of eight principals from schools participating in NCUST’s A-PLUS partnership with the Seminole County Public Schools visited Highland Elementary in Silver Springs, Maryland.  The A-PLUS principals observed classrooms, watched grade-level teams plan, and learned about the strategies that led Highland to become a National Blue Ribbon School and an NCUST . . .

St. Louis Normandy School District A-PLUS Site Visit

April 27th, 2011 - Senior NCUST researchers Dr. Joeseph Johnson and Dr. Lynne Perez are currently visiting the schools of the Normandy School District in St. Louis in an effort to evaluate the school’s progress and assist principals and administrators in making positive transformations where needed.


NCUST A-PLUS Principals Visit Escontrias Elementary

March 4th, 2011 – Seven A-PLUS principals from Phoenix and their assistant superintendent (accompanied by their NCUST executive coaches Dr. Karen Janney and Dr. Joseph Johnson) visited Escontrias Elementary in the Socorro Independent School District in El Paso, Texas. Escontrias is a winner of the 2010 National Excellence in Urban Education Award. Over the past four years the school has catapulted from being the district’s lowest achieving school to being among the highest achieving in Texas.
