NCUST Insights – Maggie Carrillo Mejia, Ph.D.

Maggie Carrillo Mejia, Ph.D.
NCUST Advisory Board Member

Having worked in four large urban districts in California for almost 35 years, I found the work challenging, exhilarating and wonderfully fulfilling. In the various leadership roles I served beginning as a high school principal and retiring as Superintendent of Sacramento City Schools, I learned the importance of building a culture of high performance through reflective and supportive practices that valued each member of the team. A high performance culture is maintained through collaborative practices in which student progress is openly discussed and by analyzing benchmark data identified to measure student progress on goal attainment. Additionally, celebrating successes, no matter how small, motivates all members to continue to give their best.
